Teyla Waldwarden of House Merinita

Teyla comes from a complex background. Her father, Kare Wald of House Tytalus, is a powerful member of the Rhine tribunal. Her mother, Suana, is a dryad of the Ullevi forest on the eastern coast of Sweden. Her father met her in his younger years while traveling in Sweden. He quickly fell for her charms and was seduced deep into a faerie regio. He spent many years there and was very happy until Teyla was born. Once she was born he realized that he was a very different being from her mother. Teyla took on many of her mothers features and was almost frightened by her father. She embraced her mother’s wild ways and actively avoided her father.

After seven years and seven days Kare could no longer handle his daughter ignoring his teachings. He swept her up and forced his way through the regio using his hermetic arts. He escaped back to his home covenant, Seestille, which is a coastal covenant near Lubeck in the Rhine tribunal. He realized he had only been gone for just over a year and had not aged a day. His Sodales were impressed with his tales of great wonder, but did not believe him completely. They were more impressed with his daughter. It was rare for them to see someone with the gift who had such strong faerie blood and a unique blood at that.

Teyla spent the next fifteen years training in Seestille under the heavy hand of her father. He was convinced that through strictness he could force her mother’s nature out of her. Little did he know that his Amicus, Ollia Gruse of House Merinita, had secretely been training her in the illegal arts of Diedne magic. Teyla learned much more easily from Ollia then she ever did from her father. After her apprenticeship was complete and she had completed her gauntlet she entered House Merinita against the wishes of her pater. He has never forgiven her for this. She is a member of the Order of Hermes in the Rhine tribunal, though she has not been in that territory for over fifteen years.

After spending a few short months traveling the coast of Denmark she boarded a ship to Sweden to try and find her mother. She spent the next four years without the guidance of other magi to train her or the availability of books to learn from. She spent her free time in the wilds studying vis and attuning her magic to the natural surroundings. She became adept at surviving on the land and understanding animals. She realized that she has a knack for finding faerie regios and dealing with their inhabitants.

After wandering the lands for so long she felt a strong pull toward the east. After a few short weeks she found herself stepping foot on the island of Gotland. Her instincts took her north and deep into a faerie regio on the northern coast. She was hopelessly lost for weeks until she found a small bird to help guide her out. Teyla and this bird, which she would later learn was named Jora, quickly formed a bond of friendship. Jora was the one who guided her to Sternwarte for the first time.

Teyla was ready to find a place to settle down for a bit and it seemed that Sternwarte was a place that she was destined to call home. She found the observatory to be of great comfort and the Master of the place, Olam, took her into his home with open arms. He said from the beginning that it was her destiny to come to Sternwarte and that he had anticipated it for many years. He spent the next two years teaching her astrology and showing her how to use the stars to assist her in her natural instincts to find faerie regios. He paired her up with another magi, Eleanor of House Veritius, who showed her how to invest items with magic and how to build her first astrolabe, which she uses to help calculate the positions of regios.

She improved her arts a great deal with the assistance of Eleanor and Olam and the immense library at Sternwarte. It was during this time of study that she bonded Jora as a familiar. She also was initiated into the society of Perfugium ex Astrologus, a secret society of astrologers. This society is where her loyalties have remained. She has done many things against the Order under the society’s direction.

Sternwarte had many visitors during her studies. She learned a great deal about distant lands and about things closer to home. She was fairly withdrawn though and preferred to stay out of the way of the visitors. One visitor however could not be ignored. A young girl in the company of a traveling magus, Catherine Dumont, was gifted. It was apparent to Teyla that this young girl, Katia, was trained at some point in the arts but had somehow been damaged by some powerful magic. Teyla consulted the stars with Olam and decided that Katia should be retrained since her gift was still complete. Katia was burdened with dangerous magical mishaps and also had a strange necklace that injured her every time someone tried to manipulate or study it. Though the training was tough and Katia’s background was a mystery, but Teyla continued the apprenticeship anyway.

It only took eleven years for Katia to complete her apprenticeship. Teyla decided against trying to initiate her into the Order of Hermes since they had no power on Gotland. Though she knew this may create problems in the future she feared that it may stir up Katia’s background and cause greater trouble.

She spent only a year with Katia as an equal before Olam had Teyla perform some favors for him. She realized then that there was a great price for her training and that she was bound to assist Olam in some very dark things. The stars were aligning themselves into some very sinister patterns that spelled out disaster to the Perfugium ex Astrologus. Teyla sensed this as well but felt more compelled toward her Filia. She thought it wise to do as she was asked though and traveled abroad for quite a while doing the bidding of Olam and the society. She also perfected her astrolabe during this period and realized that somehow finding these faerie regios was the real reason Olam sent her away. She assisted many faerie lords and acquired vast resources of vis as payment.

While in Sweden, on one of her many long trips deep into the unforgiving lands, she began to here many rumors of a man who seemed to have all the signs of the gift. She spent months following rumors and finally she found him imprisoned in a cage along a rarely used road. She sensed his gift and quickly struck a bargain with him. He would travel with her as a hired protector in return for his freedom. His name was Dras and during the next year she would learn a great deal about him and become very close friends.

Currently after spending almost six months deep in the heart of Finland her and Dras were located by Katia in a coastal town of Finland. Katia brought an urgent request for all of them to return to Gotland and speak with Olam. He had a special request for all of them to travel to Denmark and help another covenant who housed members of the Perfugium ex Astologus.
