Katia Fairsong of House Merinita
| Katia has a very scattered past. During her childhood there are many events that she can not recall. She was born in Holland during a very difficult time. When she was too young to really remember her coastal village was destroyed by a warring party from Denmark. Her father was killed and she and her mother were captured and sold as slaves. Katia was sold to a well traveled merchant who sold rare jewels and fine metals mainly in Germany. He however did have a well paying client in northern Italy who he would occasionally travel to with his rarest of finds. It was this client, Malicus, who was the first to sense the potential in her. Though the merchant was reluctant to give up his servant Malicus managed to persuade him. Malicus was very pleased to finally have acquired someone fit to apprentice under him. He sensed that she was adept at some basic sewing and was even more excited, since he was of house Verditius. Though Katia was only 5 her fey blood gave her surprising abilities to pick up on the hermetic arts. He was hardly familiar with the ways of the fey and found them to be rather difficult to train out of her. He however soon realized that she naturally attracted the fey, and not always the good ones. Her natural magnetism brought many of the fey around them at all times He began to change his focus to these creatures and made many profound changes in his own life. Malicus had been doing some magical experiments on these fey creatures and found a way to capture their “essence”. He had always been interested in things that were forbidden by the order and began an experiment on Katia. He mixed her blood with another fey creature, unknowing to him the fey creature was an unseelie one. Some of these experiments had brought too much attention to Malicus and he was suspected of breaking laws of the Order. He had crafted a necklace for Katia and put it on her before he could be captured. He fled and left Katia under the care of an old friend, Franconia. Franconia knew that he risked getting the Orders attention turned on him and had Katia sent away to Courant-Chemin (flowing road), a covenant in France that he had some association with. He gave no indication of who she was or why she was sent. Though the magi at her new home sensed her gift they could not find a way to give her proper training. She was left to the care of some grog that treated her worse then their dogs. She became almost feral during her mistreatment at this covenant. When a young magae, Nova, at the covenant was traveling to a Germany, katia was sent along. They wanted to be rid of her since she was causing many problems with the locals. She found herself once again abandoned on the doorstep of another covenant, Geboren Werden (the light of day). She was taken in and given shelter and food. They gave her sympathy since they could sense her gift but thought that it was damaged. She stayed here for a few years before the trouble caught up with her again. There were many fairies in the nearby woods that had begun causing problems within the covenant. They noticed that it seemed to be centered on Katia. At this time one of their apprentices, Catherine Dumont, had just finished her apprenticeship and was being sent to an island in Sweden to further her studies in the arts of weather control. The covenant had a few trouble makers that they were eager to be rid of. So once again Katia was sent away. On there way to Gotland they had to catch a boat in Lubeck. Katia had few memories of Malicus’s associates but while they were in Lubeck she heard some of their names mentioned. Catherine was to dine with one of them and Katia followed them hoping to find out where her former mentor was. She wasn’t able to discover where Malicus was but she did discover that he was still seeking her out. Things were getting a bit dangerous and she was happy to be aboard a boat to a distant land. When she arrived at Sternwarte, a covenant on the island of Gotland, Olam was curious about this child and did a star chart for her. He realized some great importance in her and forced Teyla Waldwarden to take her on as an apprentice. He also was beginning a new action for the society to build loyalty through training them at the observatory. Teyla was the first person to show her respect and authority. She also could understand Katia’s feral and fairy nature and quickly turned that wild nature towards a positive thing. Though Teyla was not happy at first to have acquired an apprentice, she quickly warmed up to Katia and treated her as a daughter more than an apprentice. Katia is a mix of two fairies bloods, unseelie and seelie. She has a natural link to intellego and muto. She has a knack for creating magic items since this was instilled into her by her mother and Malicus at a young age. She has traveled all over to try and understand herself and her lineage. She still wears the necklace that Malicus put on her since it has a curse and it can not be removed. |
